Pressmeddelande från det internationella DAISY-konsortiet 29 mars 2006 Läs meddelandet på konsortiets webbplats: http://www.daisy.org/news/news_detail.asp?NewsId=244 Press Release The DAISY Consortium Board of Directors has awarded the 2006 DAISY Culture of Sharing Award to Ingar Beckman Hirschfeldt, Director of The Swedish Library of Talking Books and Braille. The award is the highest honour the Consortium can confer upon an individual or organization. The recipient must exemplify outstanding qualities of leadership, the meaning of sharing and the ethics of service, social awareness and collaboration. In addition, the recipient’s activities and contribution must have helped to move DAISY into the mainstream, that is, to the world. The Board’s Motivation: The award is made to Ingar Beckman Hirschfeldt for recognising the need for a common non-proprietary format for digital talking books, transforming DAISY from a project at TPB into a worldwide standard for accessible media. Ms Beckman Hirschfeldt is a truly inspired individual. When confronted with obstacles that, to many, would have seemed insurmountable, she moved forward with her vision and invited the key libraries and organizations for the blind around the world to form an international consortium in 1995. The fruits of her labours, and realization of her vision, are apparent in what we know today as The DAISY Consortium. In her eight years as president, Ingar brought DAISY to the world. DAISY has selected an Inukshuk, in glass sculpture, to represent the magnitude of this award. The Inukshuk, pronounced IN-OOK-SHOOK, meaning "in the image of man", are magnificent lifelike figures of stone erected by the Inuit people. Unique to the Canadian Arctic they stand along its most northern shores. Enduring symbols of leadership, they encourage us to remember the importance of friendship and of our dependence upon one another to achieve what one person alone could not possibly achieve.
