University level students with a print disability can borrow course literature in alternative formats. Loans are administered by the university library and are free of charge.
TPB caters for those experiencing reading difficulties (dyslexia, disabled sight or mobility) studying at Swedish universities. The library provides course literature in alternative formats, such as talking book, e-text, braille or enlarged text.
TPB also adapts course literature in foreign languages and can organise international inter-library loans. Such loans are administered by the university library and are free of charge.
Local co-ordinator
A co-ordinator working with educational support for students with disabilities exists at all universities. The co-ordinator also assists those using TPB´s student services.

Media formats
Formats available to students with a print handicap are DAISY talking books, e-text books in Textview format and braille.
Talking books
Course literature is usually provided as a DAISY talking book. DAISY books can contain up to 50 hours of narration. You can navigate between sections, chapters and pages. Bookmarks can be placed anywhere in the talking book. Notes, either written or narrated, can also be made.

DAISY books can be read on a pc or with a talking book player. Students can borrow talking book players from TPB.
E-text books
E-text books can be read using a number of tools, for example speech synthesizers, screen magnification or a braille panel. E-text books are delivered on cd-rom.
To be able to use e-text books the pc requires the Textview programme provided by TPB. Textview enables you to find a particular section in the book via the table of contents or the index. You can also place bookmarks, make margin notes and copy limited selections of text.

Braille books
A few students receive their course literature in braille, with illustrations occasionally produced as relief pictures. Musical scores are produced in braille notation.

TPB’s catalogue contains information about talking books, e-text and braille. It provides author, title and, in Swedish, a short summary of content of the the book. The university library administers loans.
