Individuals may borrow braille books directly from TPB. By dialling a 020-number you may call from anywhere in Sweden, only paying the same rate as for a local call. You may also contact TPB by fax, mail, both in print and in braille, and via e-mail.
Loans of braille books are administered as single loans or as deposit collections. Single loans expire after 3 months, with a possible extension to 6 months. Deposit collection loans expire after 6 months. Loans of braille books to individuals are administered as single loans.
TPB-katalogen, the book catalogue
The database, TPB-katalogen, contains information about the 13 000 braille books in stock at TPB. TPB-katalogen provides information on each book regarding author, title, number of volumes and pages, a short presentation of content and other details about the book. Individuals and libraries can borrow a braille book from TPB by using TPB-katalogen.
Renewals
The loan can be renewed when it has expired. The expiry date is printed on the address-form, both in print and in braille. In renewing the loan, author, title, and expiry date should be stated. It is also possible to renew a deposit collection.
Interlibrary loans
TPB administers interlibrary loans, both within Sweden and from abroad. Braille books from other countries may be produced in the contracted braille of that country, which could make reading difficult to an unaccustomed reader.
People living abroad reading braille may borrow braille books from TPB following the same criteria as in Sweden.
